Tomato House is very excited to be distributing a small number of hand painted posters from the legendary music group Caroliner, of San Fransisco.
Caroliner have presented "History Made Audible" through countless performances and LP recordings beginning in the early 80's. Their shows are a full theatrical presentation with costumes, backdrops, animatronics, all lashed by ultraviolet blacklights, evoking a 19th century ergot poisoning hallucination. With their way-the-fuck-out songwriting, the impossible density of visuals (once described as "an angry painting come to life") and oft-violent horseplay, the venerable band now comes to your living room for private worship through these banners of visual glory. While there is no substitute for the live show--- these tapestries will not climb balconies, leap piggyback upon you, or hurl massive clothes washing devices to the floor--- a prolonged meditation before one will cause mental transport into a thrilling world of psychopathic pre-film history---guaranteed! Each Caroliner poster is a huge print of a pen-and-ink wall paper designed from a commission from a Nautical Society (sometimes with an additional taped-on "topper") slathered with paint, which both illuminates the drawings (in the style of a hand-painted silent film) and forms intense expressionist color fields. Horse-piano hybrids, monstrous Victorians in fancy hats, wood-panelled ballrooms invaded by towering sheep-men in pinstripes: this is truly delirious and visionary art work priced not for the stock Broker but for anyone with a wall and a desire to travel to the 1800's via retinal disturbance/ pleasure. This is rattlesnake bites just right for the cornea folks...
